Chumped

For Periodic Heroes.

I'd like to ask something of my viewers, however few or many. I'd like to know how many of you check out my blog, so tell me something about yourself in the comments. Who you are, what you do, and your favorite story. It would be a great encouragement to me to hear back from anyone who enjoys looking at what I love to do.

Now, this is Doug TenNapel's Ratfist. A friend told me about Doug's web comic, and I knew I wanted Ratfist to be my "free draw" subject almost as soon as I saw the site. I read the whole thing straight through right then and there, and immediately got to drawing as soon as I was done. It's a great story (I wouldn't expect anything less from TenNapel), and there are plenty of wild card characters. An artist's job is to tell the truth, so Doug, thank you for embracing that challenge and telling the truth without shame.

Here's my process for the piece. Hope you guys enjoy.

A coworker (H.W.) knows you and suggested I check out your stuff way back when you won the Clockwork Assassin bit. I'm a software developer and aspiring iPhone game developer. Your stuff always inspires me really because I've always wanted to be an artist. I've got some 10 books sitting around I need to read. But in the mean time I always read your stuff :)

That is a pretty sweet Ratfist! What does a guy gotta do to get some Missile Mouse fan art! Haha, I kid.

You know me, but here goes anyway.

I'm Jake Parker. I've worked in Animation as a visual development/production artist for a while. I draw comics too. And I've got a picture book coming out next month. I've been teaching for the past year. Trying to help people do what I do. I'm a husband and father. And my favorite story is the one where a kid finds a lost alien in his back yard and he helps him return home.
